Laura Manley

Laura Manley is a second grade teacher and the yearbook coordinator at E.C. Reems Academy of Technology and Arts. It is located in one of the toughest neighborhoods of Oakland, CA and serves a disadvantaged, at-risk community. Manley uses innovative materials and hands-on methods to demonstrate to her students that technology doesn't require a laptop, but just takes ingenuity and drive. She is also constantly developing tactile ways for students to learn, and trying to fundraise for her underserved classroom.

Laura's school is located in the heart of Oakland, ranked the 3rd most dangerous city in America in 2012. She works hard to provide her predominantly low-income minority students with a supportive environment that brings structure and a sense of normalcy to their stressful lives. Due to limited resources, Laura fundraises for basic classroom supplies and technology for her students, and single-handedly fundraised and put together the school's yearbook. The need in Oakland is huge. Laura and the teachers at EC Reems are making a real difference, but they need your support to reach more youth!
