Megan Nordoff has invested in her training and understanding of child development by becoming certified in Montessori, Orton-Gillingham, Redirecting Childrens Behavior, RIE (www.rie.org) and Pikler. Ms. Megan and my daughter have a relationship which seems to be based upon mutual trust and respect. She has set a high standard for the type of relationship I hope my daughter has with other teachers, adults and friends. As a family, we have learned so much from Ms. Megan. Weeks may go by where I don't feel the need to contact Ms. Megan. However, more often I am in contact with her on a weekly, sometimes twice weekly basis. She consistently responds to calls or emails with an in-depth, considerate, thorough and helpful response. She is so wise. I save her responses and reference them regularly. She is eternally optimistic and for this we are so grateful. She seems to bring out the best in everyone. She always greets me with a smile and offers just the small glimpse into my daughters day that I crave. It is hard to be away from my daughter all day but I know she is around someone who is consistently kind, considerate, and compassionate. We are so fortunate to have her as our daughters teacher!

Most every adult has a memory of a special teacher that he/she had when they were young. The teacher who made you feel safe when you felt insecure, showed compassion when you were feeling sad or taught you something about the world that you still carry around with you today. For me, it was my second grade teacher, Ms. Mitchell. For my daughter, it will be Ms. Megan.

I can not put into words the appreciation and admiration I have for Ms Megan... But I am going to try! Ms Megan has taught me how to use respect and compassion in dealing with my daughter's behavior. We work together as a team in learning and developing our relationship. I still remember the day Mason said to me, "Mom, that isn't respectful. I need respect." How amazing is a teacher that teaches my child to teach me! When I worry about Mason's progress and development, Ms Megan always points out and focuses on the strengths in my concerns. When I am in a sticky situation, I often ask myself, "What would Ms Megan do?" And with other parents, have shortened that often to WWMD.... She it top notch and an inspiration for us all.

Last week our newly 4 year old daughter, one of Megan Nordoff's students, did something remarkable that demonstrated to us just how much she is learning academically, and just as importantly, socially. Our daughter has speech & sensory challenges, so she is just starting to feel confident using her voice. Yet, when a conflict occurred with another student (who is twice her size), our little girl *took the initiative* to stand up for herself, speak clearly, gently but emphatically and independently to the other child. The children communicated together to reach a peaceful resolution. Thank you, Megan! The *world* needs more Megan Nordoffs!

Megan Nordoff has been a wonderful teacher to our two children for the past 7 years as our older child has graduated from the school and our younger child is now a kindergartener, set to graduate this year. I know that we and our children will miss the daily contact with Ms Megan, whose wisdom and kindness shine through everything she does. She has led the school to offer so many wonderful experiences to our children. At the school the children erected a full-size furnished Native American teepee on the school grounds, they grow organic vegetables to be incorporated into the lunch menu, they prepare an evening event every year focusing on a country which they have been focusing on, and on and on. Ms Megan has brought so much innovation and richness to her early childhood education program. She is truly deserving of this award, and has already outlined plans for how the award could be used to further enrich the school curriculum.

A grandparent has a unique perspective when observing a grandchild and her teacher. Different than the parents and on a peripheral basis most of the time ,especially when you are an out-of town grandparent, but make no mistake we care about their precious lives at school. The love, enthusiasm and fascinating descriptions of activities that my granddaughter shares with me about Ms Megan are all I need to know what a wonderful teacher she is. I also am very aware that my daughter trusts and respects Ms Megan and listens to her insights and observations and " tales of the day " that we all cherish. Add to that the times I have seen the direct interactions Ms Megan has with my granddaughter , her manner and beautiful gentle smile that is shared with all. My degree is in Early Childhood Education and I feel like a kid in a candy store when I drop off and pick up on those special occasions and get a glimpse into my granddaughters life at school. Each time I am around Ms Megan and the children I walk away knowing that she has a gift and she is teaching and interacting on a masterful level. As a teacher you are never quite sure what a child's take away is from the thier day at school, I feel sure that in years to come the take away for Ms Megan's students will shape their lives in positive, thoughtful and brilliant ways. I am so thankful that my precious girl has Ms Megan in her life!

I have a 5 and 6 year old and Megan Nordoff has been a part of their lives since they were infants. Both of my children adore her and she has formed strong relationships with them both. Megan has also taught us many things about the Montessori method and helped us to incorporate them into our lifestyle. I honestly cannot think of a more caring, loving, gentle, patient human being. My kids are dependent, creative children and I believe we owe a lot of this to Ms. Megan. I completely trust my children in her hands. Megan Nordoff is an amazing educator!

She taught my son for six years and is currently teaching my daughter, who is five. Ever since we took our first child to Montessori of Mt. Pleasant, she has educated my wife and me on how to be good parents. We are also fortunate that our children are the same ages as her children, and they have grown and learned side by side.

Our children are so well-rounded and knowledgeable because of Ms. Megan's care and kindness. Our family is very grounded because of the attention we give each other. We learned that through Montessori; we learned that through Ms Megan.

She and her colleagues are a cohesive family that I trust to educate my family.

Ms. Megan is giving a tremendous gift to our children, specifically by encouraging them to follow their curiosity. She encourages them to explore where their natural interests lead them and always shows patience and kindness as this beautiful process unfolds. These are early experiences that encourage innovation and creative thinking and I believe stay with the children throughout their lives. We feel very blessed that our boys are a part of her world. Even though our oldest had since moved on to another school, his experiences with her in the classroom are no doubt helping him thrive today. Ms. Megan is a role model not just for our children, but also for the parents and the other educators in our school environment and community.

On Feb 20-21, returning from presenting at the US Coalition for Play in Clemson, South Carolina. I had the pleasure of observing in the infant/ toddler rooms my first day. And on the second day Nicole was gracious to allow me to share Stonework outside in a great protected area with her Montessori children, the majority who attended her infant program that is now a certified RIE approved program. It was so nice to be in a setting where all children, staff and visitors are treated with such respect.

Stonework is the open-ended response to the invitation to work with stones, a natural resource, inspiring participants in storytelling. Stones are a kinesthetic medium, never fixed in their place or meaning, the ground an endless canvas and small hands the brushes that move them.

I had worked the entire day first with 3 and 4 year olds, then with the kindergarteners and back to the 3 and 4s. It was a wonderful day. Many of these children had Megan as a teacher. Her teaching and respectful interactions definitely has made a significant difference. I was so amazed at the children's stories, their patience in waiting for me to document their spoken words, as well as their wanting to hear each other's stories,

Although I was there only two days I feel fully comfortable to supporting Megan's nomination. She was so welcoming to me, Most importantly her competency is shown 'loud and clear' through the children's work and learning ethics. When I was asked to do this , I was typing up their stories. They brought me so much joy. that day . I left a little piece of my heart. I wish Megan the best.
