Teacher's Bio

Amy Steinberg is a fifth grade teacher at a small school on the seacoast of New Hampshire. A self-proclaimed "science nerd," Steinberg and her students love conducting experiments and taking trips into the nearby orienteering trails to track animals and translate the language of the birds they hear. She invites experts from all over the area to talk to her students during units, encouraging them to explore different learning paths and find their passions. Steinberg believes that every child that enters her classroom has endless potential, and her purpose in life is to find an avenue through which that potential can be accessed and expressed.

Amy,

When I nominated you for this award, only in my wildest dreams did I think we'd make it this far! I didn't think our small school and community could compete with the larger schools and states. Boy, was I wrong! Congratulations for making it to the final 4. You are truly a rock star and deserve every bit of recognition you've received throughout this process. Everyone is behind you all the way. Now, let's take it over the finish line! Keep believing!

Knowing a lot of the kids in your video, it was a shame that they had to be so limited by time…I think each one could have spoken for an hours on end on what you have done for them. I know as a parent, we still talk about you and what you have done for my kids, what they did in class, and the methods that you used to get them to learn things so that they were a part of the process. They wish that more teachers were like you…

Being in a small town may not get you the votes that large school districts can muster up, but you are like a small pebble in a large lake…the ripple will go to the shore eventually. Your impact on your students will make ripples, it just may take years for the true impact to be seen when they enter the "adult" world. You are truly special to our small town, and at the end of the day, that's all that matters. You ROCK!

As a former teacher, I can say teaching is the hardest job I have ever had. Rewarding and challenging, yes, but few teachers exemplify the qualities necessary to achieve our educational goals. Mrs. Steinberg does the profession PROUD. She is making a difference -- every day in every life she touches. Thank you KES and Mrs. Steinberg!

Mrs. Steinberg is one of the most patient and confident teachers that I have ever met. My son had her last year and my daughter has her this year. She has brought out the best in both of my children and all of her students. She has taught them that it is OK to be different and just be themselves. It takes all kinds of people to make a world and Mrs. Steinberg welcomes everyone with open arms into her classroom. She makes the kids feel like they are the only ones in the room and she is an extremely kind, patient, and gives the kids alot of confidence. I wish I had a teacher just like her when I was young! Good Luck Mrs. Steinberg we are all routing for you!!!

Even though my two daughters no longer attend KES. Amy has made a difference in their lives in opening their minds to what positive influences can do to change ones view on things. One daughter did not like to read, and now reads daily because she has seen what it can do to expand her horizons. She is now a mostly A student at her Middle School and has an A in reading. The other daughter who disliked poetry, has now attended writing camps two summers in a row, and loves to write in her journal. School should not be something that is passed through, but a journey of exploration of the mind and world around you. What better guide than Mrs. Steinberg to get the trip going on the right foot!

Best of luck Amy!!! You have made a huge difference in the way Sean looks at writing. I wish you were around just a few years earlier so you could have helped my older son see it the same way. It is so nice to see a teacher that enjoys teaching and cares for her students. Teachers have such a big impact on how some children turn out and you are leading by example!! Thanks for having such a positive impact on our children.

Every once in a while a person enters the lives of others and changes them in a positive way forever. My daughter is a better person because of Mrs. Steinberg. Her love and passion for teaching is obvious in each lesson. My daughter speaks of her teacher regularly. Her energy and enthusiasm for teaching creates a meaningful learning environment. This is not easily achieved in education. I know, because I am a teacher as well! I support Mrs. Steinberg and I would encourage others to do so as well.

What the world needs by far is more Amy Steinberg's, we are so fortunate to have her teaching our children. We have someone who is concerned about not only teaching but preparing our children to win in today's very diverse world. I am very disappointed that the participation has been so poor in voting for this true jewel that will influence our children for years to come. We as parents need to step up and make sure that this incredible teacher wins this award.
