Mrs. Heins, the lego robotics unit was the coolest unit all year! It was so fun to be able to do hands-on activities and to experience what it was like for people with these actual jobs. You are the best science teacher I have ever had and I think it would be really amazing to win the 10,000 dollars so we could do more stuff like this and you really deserve to win! Thank you so much for such a great year in science class!

Mrs. Heins has the best intentions for the $10,000 and she deserves your vote and to win this contest. She's the best teacher ever and she's a kind, caring, patient teacher who is respected and amazing. She's a respectable, full-of-knowledge teacher and she deserves to win this contest as much as anybody deserves to. She teaches with hands-on experiments with NASA, video chats with astronauts on the ISS, and many amazing guest speakers who give us many different voices on the thousands of opportunities to become the scientists and engineers of the future. She also encourages out of school science programs like Lego Robotics and Space Spartans. She's a NASA-holic, so she lets us work and compare it with NASA. (AWESOME!!!!) Lucy D.

Kaci Heins is an inspiring teacher who encourages students to be life long learners. She exemplifies project based learning via her science classes and integrates other subject areas and disciplines into all of her lessons. She is innovative and exuberant teacher whose skills go beyond the classroom to the after school learning clubs that she facilitates as well.

Mrs. Heins is the kind of teacher that I wish I had when I was in middle school. She brings science to life for her students. Students are shown how science is applied in real life, not just given information from a text book. She encourages everyone to excel in all areas, not just science. Mrs. Heins also volunteers her time with students interested in Lego Robotics. She coached a first year team of students who were selected to attend the Arizona First Lego League State Competition. Mrs. Heins has brought those same robots into the classroom in order to give every student the opportunity to learn basic programming and learn that science can be applied to many different areas of life. She also volunteers her time to work with students in the school's Science Club. Mrs. Heins is consistently challenging her students to strive for more. Due to her enthusiasm for all things science, students have been able to participate in the Changes in Altitudes Balloon Satelite Program. The data obtained from the balloon launch was then brought back into the class for the students to use during their weather unit. All of these activities take time, which Mrs. Heins freely gives. She volunteers her time after school every Tuesday and Thursday, as well as those Saturdays that are needed to make final preparations for events such as Lego Robotics or High Altitude Balloon launches. Her door is always open, both for students and parents. Thank you Mrs. Heins for taking the time to work with not only my son, but all the students at NPA. You are appreciated more than you know.

We have had 2 kids who have had Mrs. Heins. She gets them thinking about overall approaches to problems in ways that open the world of science in a fun way for kids. Her enthusiastic style is contagious.
She has sought out many opportunities to enhance her classes-from studying on Alaska science boats to her work with NASA. We all benefit from her efforts and I thoroughly applaud her dedication to her students!

Mrs Heins works hard to inspire big ideas in her students. She sees her students as agents that can make a difference and bring solutions. This view of middle schoolers is so refreshing. I love that she teaches science without a text book. It is the way science should be taught. It is very easy to see that she loves teaching. Everything she teaches has real world application and is project based. Being a mom of one of her students she even inspires me and I have learned a lot. So thankful my son is getting the opportunity to be in her class. He has grown so much. Thank you Mrs Heins for your extraordinary efforts

I have had the pleasure of subbing for Kaci Heins and I was so impressed at the quality of her lesson plans and how excited the kids were to learn about Science! While I was typing a one page report on the 3-toed sloth when I was in 6th grade, Mrs. Heins 6th grade students were learning about and putting together a presentation to educate others about a water crisis in a third world country. She deserves any teaching award she applies for! Her association with NASA and her enthusiasm as a result, shows in her teaching and her students! Kaci Heins is one of a kind!
